Dry Eye Therapy
Relief for people with tired and uncomfortable eyes!

If you have any of the symptoms listed below you may suffer from a form of dry eye:

• Red eyes
• Burning
• Itching
• Sandy or gritty feeling
• Foreign body sensation
• Light Sensitivity
• Watery eyes
• Uncomfortable contacts
• Dry throat or mouth
• Arthritis or joint pain

Our tear layer is a complex system that requires three different layers of fluid to work properly for good eye comfort. There are many things that can go wrong. Systemic diseases or medications, nutrition problems, contact lens solutions all can play a role.

To help determine if you have a dry eye problem you can fill out the Ocular Surface Disease Index survey. Please bring this with you to your next examination and we can discuss all the possible treatments available.

Vision Therapy
It may not be Attention Deficit Disorder or learning disability!

What is Vision Therapy?

Briefly defined, “vision therapy” is like physical therapy for the eyes, teaching you to coordinate your eyes with each other as well as with your hands, body and brain.

In a vision therapy program, we use instruments, special lenses and exercises to give feedback if your eyes are working correctly or incorrectly. This feedback guides you to unlearn poor seeing habits and develop correct ones. Just as when you learned to drive a car, you’ll begin by having to think about how you’re using your eyes. In time, you’ll learn to see more quickly, accurately, and comfortably on a second-nature basis.

At our vision therapy clinic, Visual Learning Center, we provide in office vision therapy for a number of visual disorders.

There are three basic programs:

VT1 - For basic eye coordination problems such as convergence insufficiency and accommodative problems.

VT2 - For learning related visual problems.

VT3 – For problems with strabismus and amblyopia.

Glaucoma
You deserve the best technology to prevent vision loss from this silent disease!

Many people take their visual health for granted. Glaucoma is a condition that affects many people over 40 years of age. Unfortunately, it is a condition that does not begin with any symptoms. For this reason it is very important to have yearly exams to allow your doctor to detect this condition before significant damage occurs. Once the eye is damaged there is no way to repair it.

The good news is that we have the most advanced technology available to diagnose and treat glaucoma. If you have a loved one who has not had a recent exam, do them a favor and schedule them for this important testing.

Gentle molding is a non-surgical process which reshapes (flattens) the cornea of the eye using contact lenses. Gentle molding uses reverse geometry contact lenses. Flattening the cornea reduces the focusing power of the eye. If the amount of corneal flattening is accurately controlled, it is possible to bring the eye into correct focus and compensate for myopia (nearsightedness). After the contact lens is removed, the cornea retains its flattened shape for part or all of the remainder of the day. A retainer lens must be used each day to maintain the corneal flattening, or the myopia will revert to the pre-treatment level.

The procedure was first used over 40 years ago when eye doctors noticed that some contact lens wearers' vision improved after wearing their lenses. It has been reported in Chinese history that sand bags were placed on the eyes at night in an effort to prevent myopia though this was more likely to cause glaucoma. Initially, only old-fashioned, hard contact lens material (PMMA) was used. A series of lenses were needed, each lens flattening the cornea a small amount until the desired results were attained. This took months to years to accomplish. Now, with the advent of space-age polymers, computer-assisted lathes, and technological advancement in the procedure, it is possible to achieve reduction of myopia in a matter of days.

Children and adults can be treated with Gentle molding because the principle of flattening the cornea is effective for both. Myopia control is used to slow or stop the increase in axial length of the eye that occurs in growing children who are becoming more nearsighted each year. This may result in a lower prescription, so the child won't have to wear the thick lenses he might otherwise require by the time he/she is a teenager.

Prio
For the serious computer user!

It is estimated that over 100 million working Americans suffer from computer eyestrain. Nearly 54 million children connect to the Internet each day either at home or in school. If you or your child spend more than two hours each day in front of a computer screen, you likely experience some symptoms of computer vision syndrome or CVS:

• Headaches
• Loss of focus
• Burning/tired eyes
• Double vision
• Blurred vision
• Neck and shoulder pains

CVS is caused by our eyes and brain reacting differently to characters on the screen than they do to printed characters. Until now, traditional eye exams for near vision have resulted in eyewear suited for reading printed material, not for viewing computer screens.

Make sure you measure the distance from your eyes to the computer screen before your next exam and Dr. Doud will test you with the Prio system to make sure your computer vision is as comfortable as possible.
